Schiphol Park, Sleep and Fly: Hotel Parking Versus Airport Car Parks
Driving to Schiphol the night before an early flight raises two separate questions: where the car sleeps, and where you do. The airport’s own car parks are cheap when booked ahead and expensive at the barrier, and the hotels range from free parking with a free shuttle to €49 a night by the terminal. This is how to combine them.
The airport car parks
P1, within walking distance of the terminal, and the covered P3 long-stay both charge around €57.50 for a walk-up day. Booked online, P3 has been offered at about €50 for the first three days and €6 for each further day, and the airport’s Smart Parking product, for stays of eight days or more, at roughly €5 a day, less with six weeks’ notice. For a week away, an online P3 or Smart Parking reservation plus one hotel night with a shuttle is usually the cheapest package; for a single night, hotel parking wins.
Hotels with parking and a free shuttle both ways
The Van der Valk Hotel Schiphol A4 has free parking during the stay and a free shuttle from 5:00 am to 11:40 pm, and it is large enough to have space. The Best Western Plus Amsterdam Airport Hotel and the Bastion Hotel Amsterdam Airport at De Hoek offer free parking during the stay and share a free shuttle every 30 minutes from 6:00 am, but both state that the car cannot stay while you travel. The Steigenberger Airport Hotel Amsterdam charges about €27 a day with a free shuttle from 6:00 am, and the ibis Styles Amsterdam Airport has a 24-hour car park with daily rates and a free shuttle.
Hotels with parking and a shuttle that is free one way
The Park Plaza Amsterdam Airport has 300 spaces from €15 a night and a free shuttle in from 5:00 am, €5 back. The Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport charges about €3 an hour, the Radisson Blu Hotel, Amsterdam Airport caps parking at €25 a night, and the Corendon Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and Ramada by Wyndham Amsterdam Airport Schiphol have their own car parks and shuttles from 4:15 am and 5:00 am respectively.
Parking at the terminal itself
The Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has covered parking at about €49 a day and the Sheraton Amsterdam Airport Hotel charges hourly, daily and weekly rates; both are on the covered walkway, so the morning involves no shuttle at all. citizenM Schiphol Airport has no car park of its own and points drivers to the airport’s P1 and P3. The Holiday Inn Express Amsterdam - Schiphol in Hoofddorp charges about €25 a day. Whatever you choose, ask the hotel in writing whether the car may stay for the length of the trip; “free parking” almost always means during the stay only.
