Schiphol Day Rooms and Transit Hotels: Rest by the Hour Between Flights
Schiphol is one of the few European hubs where “a room for a few hours” is a real product rather than a favour. Two hotels inside the terminal sell rooms by the hour and the day, sleep pods cover short daytime gaps, and the landside hotels are close enough that a full night can be cheaper than a day rate elsewhere. Here is how to use them by layover length.
Two to four hours: pods or a cabin
XpresSpa’s sleeping pods in Lounge 2 and on the D pier are the smallest unit, one to four hours between 7:00 am and 9:00 pm, in the non-Schengen area only. Four to eight hours: a day room airside
The Mercure Hotel Schiphol Terminal in Lounge 3, at the start of the F pier, is a proper hotel room by the day, with breakfast delivered from the terminal bakery and a 24-hour desk. YOTELAIR’s cabins scale to the same length. Both take hand luggage only and both require a boarding pass for a flight the same or the following day; neither needs a Schengen visa. Eight hours or more: a landside room, or the city
Past eight hours the sums change. citizenM Schiphol Airport, four minutes on foot from Arrivals 4, and the Sheraton Amsterdam Airport Hotel, two minutes from Schiphol Plaza, sell normal nights that can undercut an airside day rate, and give you a full-size room and a real restaurant. Landside means passing immigration, so this only works for passengers who can enter the Schengen area. Which one to book
